Exchange 2003 Support comes to an end

With all the buzz going on about end-of-support for Windows XP (April 8, 2014) I suddenly realized there are more Operating Systems and (Server Applications) that are about to hit the end-of-support date.

On this side of the pond a lot of customers are still running Exchange 2003. Exchange 2003 Extended support will end on April 8, 2014 as well, just like Windows XP. This means that from this date on Exchange 2003 is no longer supported, and (critical) security fixes will not be released by Microsoft. The product won’t stop working, but personally I think the time is right to start working on an upgrade. Continue reading Exchange 2003 Support comes to an end

MEC RECAP – It was great

All good things come to an end and that’s also true for MEC 2014. On the day after MEC 2014 it is time to rethink the event. Overall it was an awesome event, despite the dull keynote session although the videos shown there were great, especially the one featuring David Espinoza and Greg Taylor on email innovation:

Replay Transaction Log Files and Offline Backup in Exchange Server

During MEC 2014 I delivered a presentation on “Backup, Restore and Disaster Recovery” in Exchange 2013. The first part of this presentation was about Mailbox databases and its accompanying transaction log files. AutodiscoverRedirect in Exchange 2013 SP1 on Windows 2012 R2

In earlier versions of Exchange you can use the Autodiscoverredirect option to retrieve autodiscover information if your primary SMTP domain in your email address does not match the domain name of the autodiscover DNS record in your Exchange deployment. You’ll face this issue when your Client Access server is using webmail.contoso.com and autodiscover.contoso.com but your email address is john@fabrikam.com. In this case your Outlook client will automatically start looking for a DNS record called autodiscover.fabrikam.com which points to the autodiscover.contoso.com. As a result a certificate warning is presented since the name of the request does not match the name on the certificate.
