The Microsoft Exchange administrator has made a change…

Recently I had to upgrade an Exchange 2013 platform from CU2 to CU5, there were four Exchange 2013 Client Access servers and eight Exchange 2013 Mailbox servers (in a DAG).

During the upgrade of the Mailbox servers users were presented with the dreaded “The Microsoft Exchange administrator has made a change that requires you quit and restart Outlook.” dialog box.

Login failed because the mailbox you tried to access is being moved

In preparation of a migration from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013 (interorg, so new Active Directory and new Exchange deployment) I had to clean up the Exchange 2007 environment. There was one user that had a 4.5GB Mailbox with over 50,000 items in.

Exchange 2013 Cumulative Update 5

Microsoft recently released its quarterly update for Exchange Server 2013, Cumulative Update 5 (CU5), and the successor of Exchange 2013 Service Pack 1 (which is Cumulative Update 4 under the hood). It is a Cumulative Update, so it contains all fixes, features and functionality of earlier CU’s so if you’re installing a fresh Exchange 2013 server or upgrade for example from CU2 there’s no need to install SP1 first. Just start directly installing Exchange 2013 CU5.
